HOW TO MINIMIZE LARGE PORES
Having large pores is a characteristic of oily skin. The problems arise when your oil glands produce too much oil. This excess oil mixes with other substances (such as dead skin cells) in the pore to form a clog. This clog makes it difficult for the oil to flow freely, which causes the pore itself to enlarge.Sometimes pores can be so large that they’re noticeable that they make us self-conscious. No matter what you do, it’s not possible to eliminate pores completely. There’s nothing you can do. But there are things you can do to minimize them:
- PORE REFINING CLEANSER AND TONER
It’s important to cleanse your skin to unclog your pores and to remove excess oil from your skin. Cleansing with a facial wash is great. But what’s even better, is using a cleanser that is specifically formulated to refine large pores. Neutrogena has a great pore-refining cleansers and toner.

Exfoliating will help get rid of dead skin that often times clogs pores. However, don’t exfoliate too frequently, say everyday. Over-exfoliation may lead to other problems. You can exfoliate once a week at home. There are many facial scrubs out there but from my experience, Eden Face and Body Scrub works like a charm! It beats my other pricey facial scrubs. The Forever Living facial scrub is gentle enough to be used everyday.
Primer is a very important component in your make-up routine. It makes all the difference if you have large pores. There are various types of primers. Including mattifying, hydrating, resurfacing, colour correcting etc. There are primers made to minimize the appearance of pores. Some of the best are:
4. USE A CLAY MASK REGULARLY
A good clay mask done at least once a month will detoxify and purify the skin by sucking up all that bad stuff in your pores. It literally vacuums your pores!
Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay is one of the best I’ve used so far.
Other alternative cleansing masks are:
5. PORE STRIPS
These strips are placed on the area where you have pores to remove pore-clogging dirt and oil. Some good ones are the Biore Deep Cleansing Pore Strips. You can find them here.
6. BUFFING FOUNDATION IN A CIRCULAR MANNER
There are many ways to apply foundation, from using a sponge to using brushes to using hands. If you have large visible pores and you want professional results with your foundation application, use a round buffing motion. Take a dense buffing brush and work the foundation into the skin by brushing the foundation in circles, concentrating on one section at a time. The results are phenomenal! Avoid applying your foundation in one direction as it will expose the pores even more.
